Fair season is always bittersweet. It symbolizes one of my favorite past times, as well as the end of summer. Our county fair is always the last weekend in August located in Rhinebeck, NY at the beautiful Dutchess County Fairgrounds. It is one of my more recent traditions to stuff my face with fried raviolis from Coppola's followed by either a big apple crisp or mint chocolate chip on a cone. I have to confess I have not yet braved the 4H lines to get one of the highly sought after milkshakes. On the first day of the fair they listed that they sold over 3,000 milkshakes! I have a feeling I am really missing out. Keep reading to see more from my trip to the Dutchess County Fair!

As soon as October 1st hits I'm all about pumpkins and Halloween, but most importantly... Flannels! Unfortunately...well not really but... we had a fairly warm start to our fall up here in New York, but I am more than happy to say it is finally flannel weather! (Okay, okay so I'm not totally thrilled about the cold... But flannels are just so comfy!)
Whether you rock your flannel over your favorite Country Barbie shirt or sport it with an Equestrianista vest, you can't go wrong with a good flannel shirt! I suppose you could always go the hipster route and wear it tied around your waste as well, but personally I think the defeats the purpose.
Let me know what your favorite way to wear your flannel is!
I know I know. Country Barbies are supposed to look pretty and play dirty, but it's supposed to rain for the next 10 days and all I want to do is be outside! I can't ride my horse, can't ride the dirtbike, can't shoot my bow.... We can;t even line dance on the deck over the river! The rain cancelled my moto ride last weekend and my friends race (I'm praying the rain breaks Sunday like it's supposed to) and Dakota gets to play hookie for the next week too. I can't complain because we had skipped Spring time weather and went straight to summer, but the ground really needs the rain.
Dear Mother Nature - GET IT TOGETHER! It's summer in 3 weeks and it was under 50 this morning -_-
What do you do to keep busy when it rains?
Don't worry, we will be back soon!
I hope everyone is ready for SUMMER 2015! I cannot believe it's already June. If you have been following my IG and FB posts you know I have been preoccupied with several different things going on in my personal life. I have not been able to give the business 100%, as I would like. So I am taking a brief hiatus to refocus, catch up on orders, and finish designing new products! Time to focus on my creativity again!
If you have already placed an order, DO NOT WORRY! I am currently working on catching up on all current orders -- they're printing as I type, helloooo multi tasking queen! If you have any questions on your order please email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will be updating and purging our email accounts very shortly.
Thank you all for your support, patience and understanding! I can't wait to reset and refocus. CB will be back and better than before!
Brittany - THE COUNTRY BARBIE
What are your mud season go to's?
You know that period of time in between winter and spring? Yeah, that's mud season. When all the snow starts melting for the northern belles or the rain starts for my southern girls, and we are left with a muddy mess. THAT is mud season. Don't get me wrong, mud season is a blast! (Unless of course you have a palomino named Dakota who loves to roll....) But with the mucky mess, a girl NEEDS to be prepared. Rain boots - necessity! You can find my black and pink rain boots from Wally World in my trunk AT ALL TIMES. The mud cleans off of them easily and they are high enough that if and when I sink in the mud I don't have a new gel insole inside. Make sure they fit decently though! I've had a boot get sucked into the mud and was no longer on my foot... Anyone else have that problem? My hooded rain jacket is also another must have. Do I really need to explain why? And of course my look pretty play dirty attire! Let's be honest, there is no way to not be dirty this time of year, so we can do ourselves a favor and still look pretty!
Do you have any must haves for this time of year? Let me know!
but are you even from the country?
I love weddings. I have always loved weddings. If I could have, I would have been a wedding planner. I love the country. I love my horse and being at the barn. So naturally, I want a 'country' wedding... kind of. This explosion of country themed weddings is great for inspiration but it seems like EVERYONE and their brother is having a country wedding. Why?! From what I know, 99% of the people have a country wedding have never even stepped foot inside a barn. So what is their draw to have a country wedding? Could it be they finally understand what we all know and love about barns, farms and the great outdoors? Someone please explain! Don't get me wrong, I love mason jars, and cowboy boots and hay bales at the reception. And all these ideas on Pinterest are making my head spin! But I have to also admit, I feel like it will make my day less special. I always like to be different, and not do what everyone else is doing. Oh well! When you can't beat them join them!
Okay ladies, I know the issue of pink camo always brings mixed emotions to the surface so I want to hear what you have to say. Personally, I love pink -- they don't call me the Country Barbie for nothing (blue is still my favorite color though).
The general belief is that deer only see blue and yellow, so that's why those blaze orange safety vests don't throw your hunt. Personally, I think someone should start making them in hot pink! You also have to be conscience that your clothing has not been enhanced with UV brighteners (which deer can see - test your clothing with a black light). But other than that, more power to the ladies who hunt in pink camo. I mean we did start Country Barbie clothing for country girls who like to wear pink...
So with all that being said, why do some people HATE pink camo so much? I've never understood it. If pink just isn't your thing, then ok, but no need to be hostile. We like pink. We like pink camo. We do not hunt flamingos.
About the Author
Hey ya’ll, my name is Brittany. I am from a small town in upstate New York, yes NY, no it’s not all city here. I am 25 and grew up in Westchester County, that’s where I get my ‘accent’ from (it’s about an hour north of the Big Apple). I started this page to share the idea that you don’t have to fit a certain mold or standard someone else has. I like pink and sparkles, I surround myself with beautiful things, but I know how to get down and dirty with the best of them. Look pretty, play dirty girls.
